MS Berlin began life in 1980 operated by Peter Deilmann Cruises. The ship mostly operated cruises in the Caribbean with some in the Mediterranean and elsewhere in Europe. In addition to Berlin she has been Princess Mahuri 1982-84 Orange Melody 2005 and FTI Berlin 2012-14.

Berlin uses her small size and maneuverability to visit ports that larger cruise ships cannot navigate as well as better known ports. During 2005-2013 the Berlin cruise ship was owned by Saga Cruises and was part of the lines 2nd brand Spirit of Adventure Cruises along with the Quest of Adventure currently sailing as Saga Pearl 2. For seven years between 2006 and 2012 the ship operated as Spirit of Adventure for Saga Cruises.
